Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has hit back at President Donald Trump after remarks he made about her at a rally in North Carolina.

The Georgia Republican said that she had voted with the President 98 percent of the time, and added, “Maybe his memory is not so good.”

Why It Matters

For years, Greene was one of Trump’s staunchest allies. But after clashing on multiple issues, including the Epstein Files and foreign policy positions, the president branded the Congresswoman a traitor, and publicly withdrew his support and endorsement of her. She has subsequently announced her resignation from Congress.

The acrimonious split reflects a broader schism between the Make American Great Again movement and the Republican Party. Though Trump retains broad popularity among the conservative base, there has been a break in right-wing support for the president on a number of issues.

Trump’s break with Greene, who has been a polarizing member of Congress since taking office in 2021, marks the loss of one of his most vocal supporters.

Trump gave a 90-minute speech during a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, in which, he spoke about many issues, including Greene.

“What the hell happened to her?” Trump said during the speech. “She must have been a stone-cold liberal. It was only because I couldn’t call her back.”

Greene then swiftly hit back at this “I think the President is having some confusion because my voting record and donation history is actually more conservative and America First than he is,” she wrote on X.

“I didn’t call him much but I should have called him more,” she added.

Greene said in the post that she voted with the president 98 percent of the time, but “wouldn’t take my name of [sic] the Epstein discharge petition.”

The handling of the Epstein files has been one of the most significant issues that has prompted a break in support for the president from the right. Greene has been a persistent thorn in his side over the topic.

Trump did not reference the Epstein files during his event in North Carolina. The DOJ has begun to release a trove of records, though there has been criticism over heavy redactions.

What People Are Saying

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, in a post on X: “I refuse to be divided any longer. I refuse to hate my fellow Americans. I love my fellow Americans and I love my country. The old guard is dying, the bully is becoming a lame duck, and real America is rising.”

President Donald Trump, speaking in North Carolina: “You can’t call a president every single day, and then when the president doesn’t call you back, she goes around saying ‘He doesn’t call me back.’ I said, ‘Marjorie, I just can’t call you back, I’m sorry’… But what the hell happened to Marjorie Traitor Greene? It’s unbelievable.”

What’s Next

Greene’s last day in Congress is scheduled for January 5, 2026. A special election will be held for her seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.
