A MAN has tragically died after being attacked in a fish and chip shop – as another man is arrested.

Cops have launched a murder probe after the assault inside the takeaway shop in Stockbridge Village, in Merseyside, last Friday.

The 54-year-old suffered a serious head injury after being attacked in The Village Chippy at around 7.30pm.

He was rushed to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service and the incident was reported to police the following day.

Merseyside Police has now confirmed the victim tragically died yesterday afternoon.

His family are being supported by officers as a post-mortem is carried out to establish a cause of death.

The force arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of wounding with intent.

He remains on bail as a murder investigation is launched by cops.

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings has issued an urgent appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

She said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this tragic time.

“I know people living in the local community will be understandably upset and concerned.

“I want them to be reassured that we are thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“A murder investigation is now underway and we are appealing for information.

“We know there were people inside The Village Chippy at the time… please come forward if you have information.”
