Goldberg and Nash starred in the 1995 film “Boys on the Side.”
Niecy Nash was almost in danger, girl, after she boldly called out Whoopi Goldberg while filming her first movie role in the 1995 film Boys on the Side.
The All’s Fair star, who stopped by The View Tuesday to promote the upcoming Hulu drama, told the cohosts in an interview that she nearly lost her debut film gig due to talk show moderator Goldberg’s behavior in their scene.
Nash and Goldberg reflected on making the movie — which follows a group of women on a cross-country road trip — with director Herbert Ross, from whom Nash took the reins during a comical exchange in her lone scene.
“I played ‘Woman in the Diner.’ My scene was with this beautiful woman right here,” Nash said of Goldberg. “I almost got fired because she kept laughing and messing up the scene. And I yelled, ‘Cut!’ You’re not supposed to do that.”

Nash continued, “I yelled cut and I said, ‘Hey, she’s messing up the scene!’ And Whoopi said, ‘No you didn’t!’”
The audience laughed as Nash recounted the day, adding that she told Goldberg, “Girl, they’re not going to fire you!” before she suggested an alteration to a line.
“I needed them to know I didn’t do it. Hey, she’s messing it up! But I have loved you ever since,” Nash said. Goldberg added, “But tell them why, because it was a line that no human being would say.”
Elaborating, Nash said that Ross asked her what the problem with the line was, and Nash replied by telling him that “people don’t talk like that” in the real world.
“He said, ‘Well, what would you like to say?’ And I said, ‘Girl, is that your friend in the bathroom? You better get in there because she’s throwing up!’ And Whoopi said, ‘You go, girl!’”
When the cohosts inquired about the original line, both Goldberg and Nash couldn’t remember, but Nash said that “it was terrible, whatever the first line was.”

Goldberg finished by noting that “it made no sense, and she fixed it” for the final cut, and the scene was all the better for it.
