Eamonn Holmes suffered a stroke

TV presenter Eamonn Holmes is recovering in hospital after it was confirmed that he suffered a stroke. GB News – the station where Eamonn, 66, presents a breakfast show – announced the news in a statement.

It said: “Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.

“His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he is ready to return.”

Eamonn had been set to return to GB News Breakfast next week for the show that he co-hosts with Ellie Costello, weekly from Monday to Wednesday.

But now, in light of his recovery, Alex Armstrong is due to replace him while he takes much needed time out following his “collapse”. Eamonn’s career has spanned more than 40 years and Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News was one of the first people to comment on Eamonn’s medical condition and recovery.

He said: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”

And this was quickly followed up by a host of fans of the TV presenter who rushed to the comment section of the article confirming his latest condition.

One person wrote: “Wishing you a good and speedy recovery Eamonn and thank for all the good you have done over the years, it is much appreciated.”

Another added: “Big hugs to Eamon. Wishing you well soon.”

And a third person penned: “I hope you get well soon Eamonn, and we will see you back on GB News with Ellie.”

Over recent years, Eamonn has suffered a string of health issue, which has seen him use a wheelchair to aid his mobility.

While he has done his best to maintain his acclaimed TV role, it was reported earlier this month that his future within the industry looks uncertain after he was caught seemingly falling asleep while on air.

However, he insisted at the time that he was simply checking faulty equipment. He said: “I was just looking down at my mic pack to see why it was not working, as we don’t have floor managers or camera operators. Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!”

Since then, the presenter, who recently split with Ruth Langsford back in 2024 after 14 years of marriage, has been off air.

A source told The Sun: “There have been lots of whispers about Eamonn being off. It’s unlike him. He lives and breathes presenting on television.”

During his one man show, Eamonn spoke candidly about how life as he knew it had changed since using a wheelchair. He said: “If you are in a wheelchair you are either at the front of the cinema or the back.”

He added: “Why can’t you be in the middle? The thing that makes me laugh is rooms that are classed as accessible in hotels. They are not at all. Everything is wrong, the bathrooms and the showers. I would love to advise hotel people as they are no use to anybody.”

He also used his public platform to cast doubt over the standards within the TV industry, claiming that budgets were having a negative impact on the quality of production.

He continued: “It is a great pity. If you can’t justify the audience then it’s over. ITV will be the next one down the tubes. It will be sold to an American company and they will make it a streaming company.”
