Meghan Markle’s life at the royal life was challenging as she found her and Prince Harry’s first homes cramped and isolating.

According to a new biography by Tom Quinn, the Duchess of Sussex was disappointed with Nottingham Cottage.

She compared it with Kensington Palace and said it was small and likened palace life to a “kind of prison,” the author penned, per Radar Online.

Quinn said the “initial glamour” of royal life “wore off,” and Meghan was left “horrified” by the daily trips from the palace to attend royal duties

A report by Radar Online revealed that later the move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, despite costly renovations, did little to ease her concerns.

Quinn penned that it was the “final straw” for Meghan, who complained, “I don’t want to retire to rural obscurity” while overseeing the renovation project.”

Comparisons to Kate Midldeton made things worse for Harry’s wife. “Meghan realised that living there would be like living in the Russian steppe,” he said.

“Its remoteness made Kensington seem like the centre of the universe,” Quinn continued.

“Their flight to Windsor did not mean an escape from the world’s enquiring eye; instead, it revealed to that world a lack of foresight.”

He went on to add that life at Nottingham Cottage “was the beginning of all Meghan’s troubles.”

“She felt it was so small that it must be a reflection on how the royal family were belittling her husband.”

Speaking on the matter, royal author Ingrid Seward shared the same take, saying, “I think that Meghan must have been incredibly envious and then jealous of Kate… which Harry used to call ‘my hovel.’”
