California Governor Gavin Newsom has escalated his clash with Fox News, issuing what he calls a “final warning” as he demands the network suspend host Greg Gutfeld for allegedly spreading fabricated information on-air.

In a sharply worded post on X, Newsom accused Gutfeld — one of Fox News’ most recognizable hosts — of inventing details during a recent commentary segment. He even took a jab at Gutfeld’s comedic style, saying the show “might need a laugh track” to get through its monologues.

Newsom argued that allowing Gutfeld to continue broadcasting while pushing “made-up claims” is unacceptable, especially given the current political climate. He warned that if Fox News refuses to take action, he is prepared to involve the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to pursue formal consequences.

The governor also hinted that Gutfeld’s show has been struggling with ratings, suggesting that misleading commentary becomes even more dangerous when a program is trying to regain attention by any means necessary.

The remarks immediately fueled intense debate online. Critics of Newsom claim his demands violate freedom of the press, while supporters argue he’s simply taking a necessary stand against misinformation.

Still, Newsom doubled down, insisting this is his “final warning” — and he will not hesitate to escalate if Fox News does not respond appropriately. As of now, Fox News has not released an official statement addressing his demands.
