Gogglebox fans have discovered that one of this series’ new stars boasts an unlikely celebrity connection, leading some to brand her a nepo-sister.

Ahead of the show’s new series in September, a string of new pairs were introduced to viewers, with one being the eccentric Lara and her mother-in-law Sara.

While the pair’s witty exchanges have already amused fans, some were stunned to find out that Lara is the sister of one of British TV’s most beloved stars.

In fact, Lara’s brother is actually beloved TV adventurer Bear Grylls, and she is even responsible for giving her little brother his famous nickmame.

Bear has presented a string of adventure and survival series, and as well as completing feats such as climbing Mount Everest, he also appeared on Netflix‘s star-studded show Celebrity Bear Hunt.

Lara and Bear’s father Sir Michael Grylls, a longtime Conservative MP, was also knighted by the late Queen in 1992.

The sibling connection was uncovered by one fan on TikTok who posted a clip with the caption: ‘Controversial opinion, but it does help to get chosen to go on Gogglebox if your brother is Bear Grylls.’

Sharing their thoughts, fans commented: ‘Helps to have a showbiz connection;

‘Its not what Gogglebox was about; ‘It’s the same way being related to the Chuckle Brothers helped Sophie and Pete get on the show.’

It comes after fans of Gogglebox favourites Pete and Sophie Sandiford have been left in shock after learning the siblings’ uncle is children’s television entertainer Paul Chuckle.

Known formally as Paul Elliott, 77, he appeared on BBC programme ChuckleVision from 1987 to 2009 with his late brother Barry.

The children’s TV icon shared a throwback photo of himself with Pete and Sophie, both 30, on Instagram on Wednesday as he wished his niece a happy birthday.

He captioned the picture: ‘Happy 30th birthday my lovely grand niece Soph … you were only 24 here. Lots of love from us both [Paul and his wife Sue] xx’

Sophie replied to the heartfelt post: ‘Thank you uncle Paul and auntie sue❤️ love you both xxxx’

Pete and Sophie, from Blackpool, have been regulars on Gogglebox since 2018.

Fans flocked to the comments in disbelief about the duo’s famous uncle.

They said: ‘My mind is blown!! And now I’m just seeing how much Pete looks like Barry;’

Wow, I didn’t know they related them 2 siblings are related to Paul chuckle?!’

‘Imagine Paul chuckle being your family member I would dieeeedd.’ [sic];’

‘Omg I didn’t know you guys were related.’

Pete and Sophie’s other great uncle, Paul’s brother Barry, died after a battle with cancer at the age of 73 on 5 August 2018.

Sophie wrote on social media at the time: ‘A truly lovely and funny man to be around. You filled millions of childhoods with laughter and entertainment including mine and Peter’s.

‘You will be sadly missed by many. Rest in peace Uncle Barry. Lots of love from me, to you.’

Gogglebox airs on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
