A Netflix Christmas crime thriller with a plot twist ‘fans didn’t see coming’ is rocketing up the streamer’s charts.

Jingle Bell Heist debuted on Netflix on November 26 – and has been thoroughly entertaining viewers.

The film stars Connor Swindells (Sex Education) and Olivia Holt (Cloak & Dagger) as Nick and Sophie, two down-on-their-luck individuals.

The pair decide to rob Sterlings, a swanky London department store, on Christmas Eve.

Both have their own reasons for this – Sophie is a low-level employee caring for her sick mother.

Meanwhile, Nick wants revenge after not being paid after working on the CCTV and security systems.

Christmas crime thriller Jingle Bell Heist dropped on Netflix near the end of November – and is already performing well

The film stars Sex Education’s Connor Swindells and Cloak & Dagger’s Olivia Holt in the lead roles

One fan wrote on X: ‘Jingle Bell Heist has no reason being as good and clever of a movie as it is.

‘It seemed like a cheesy Netflix movie – um, it’s so much more, there’s some good twists!’

Another penned: ‘Definitely didn’t see that plot twist coming.’

While a third shared: ‘Jingle bell heist is a cute Christmas heist movie. The plot twist. Little bit of romance, comedy and crime.’

Jingle Bell Heist also features Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead), as Sterlings’ eponymous owner, Maxwell Sterlin.

Motherland and Amandaland actress Lucy Punch portrays the character Cynthia Hanson.

The trailer reveals £500,000 is in the Sterlings’ office above the shop floor – setting up the stakes for Sophie and Nick.

At present, the film has a good showing on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with a decent 69% rating.

With the pair having very different reasons for attempting this heist, will they be able to pull it off?

Jingle Bell Heist was written by New York Times bestselling author Abby McDonald and directed by Michael Fimognari.

It comes as a different festive film is set to be shown on Christmas Day – after being branded a ‘trash masterpiece’.

Romantic comedy-drama 12 Pups of Christmas was released in 2019 and didn’t have the best reception.

Great Christmas – a freeview channel – will be airing the film as part of its festive offering of 197 movies this December.

12 Pups of Christmas will air at 5.30pm on Christmas Day and is the lowest rated of the bunch.

With a score of just 3.9 out of 10 on IMDB, one reviewer described the film as a ‘trash masterpiece’ while another said it was ‘incredibly disjointed and extremely fun’.

The premise follows Erin (Charlotte Sullivan), a dog therapist who moves to a new city post-break up.

Following on from this, she is tasked with finding new homes for the titular pups before the big day.
