During his visit to Dalton on Tuesday, we spoke with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger about what a special election could look like for the seat held US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Last month, Representative Greene announced she would resign from Congress effective January 5th.

In a video posted to social media, Greene said she did not want to face-off with the president in a primary while Republicans lose at a state-level.

We spoke with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger at the Dalton Rotary Club, where he delivered an address.

During his speech, he talked about issues he says are key in making sure the state thrives, including investing in education and businesses.

He also talked about the importance of secure and fast elections, something that North Georgia will experience soon.

With Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s announcement that’s she is stepping down, her district will need to hold a special election to fill her seat.

We asked Raffensperger when voters can expect an announcement on the race.

Secretary Raffensperger says while the Governor sets the timeline for special elections, his office is already preparing.

“As soon as he does that, they’ll post it so candidates will have the sufficient time to build their campaigns and get out there, but we’ll be fully prepared for that.”

We also asked Secretary Raffensperger about the state dropping its election interference case against President Donald Trump.
