A movie branded ‘one of the worst ever made’ has surprisingly risen up the Netflix charts despite having a 10% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Released in 2024, Madame Web is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name – but the thriller was very poorly received.
Despite the largely negative reviews, Madame Web rocketed up the Netflix charts after being added to the platform on Saturday.
In fact, the film found its way to the number one position, outranking festive flicks Jingle Bell Heist and That Christmas.
It comes as Madame Web achieved a very low score of just 10% on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
Disappointed users shared their thoughts – and didn’t mince their words, as one said: ‘Not much to say honestly this movie is so ridiculously bad it’s funny.’

The film also features Sydney Sweeney in the role of awkward teenager Julia Cornwall – who is hunted by the film’s villain
Another wrote: ‘Wow this is just trash.’
While a third remarked: ‘I’ve attended funerals that were more enjoyable than Madame Web.
‘This should have a government health warning at the start. You will feel worse for watching it. Terrible.’
Madame Web starred Dakota Johnson as Cassie Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who starts to gain clairvoyant abilities.
The film’s cast also included Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott and Tahar Rahim.
At the time of release, Madame Web was torn apart by critics and viewers, who declared it ‘the worst comic book movie ever’ and ‘an embarrassing mess’.
Writing on X, one person penned: ‘I watched #MadameWeb and it was bad. I tried to give it a chance but sadly the poor execution didn’t help it.
‘The cast was awesome but the performances were definitely disappointing…’
Another shared: ‘#MadameWeb is an embarrassing mess. Talented stars wasted on probably the worst comic book movie I have ever seen.
‘Filled with atrocious dialogue, awkward editing & all around laughable structure.
‘I sat there baffled scene by scene someone approved this. The memes will redeem it.’
However, other watchers had very different takeaways from Madam Web as a whole.

Upon its initial release, Madame Web was torn apart by critics and viewers – scoring just 10% on Rotten Tomatoes
One said: ‘#MadameWeb exceeds expectations! Some of the dialog is cheesy AF, some heavy-handed product placement and probably couldve been tidied up a bit more.
‘But the cast really work magic with that they had, their chemistry is a lot of fun and the suits look great.’
‘#MadameWeb is totally fine. There’s really not a lot to say here. The leads are charming. Dakota Johnson is a witchy weirdo.
‘The slasher/FINAL DESTINATION meets superhero vibes are there.
‘But there’s just not a whole lot to it. Not a disaster. Just kinda there.’
It comes as an ‘insanely sinister and eerily realistic’ rocketed up Netflix’s charts last month.
The Crystal Cuckoo is a Spanish drama based on Javier Castillo’s 2021 novel El cuco de cristal.
The six-part series landed on the popular streaming service on November 14, and follows the story of a young woman called Clara Merlo who travels to a fictional Spanish town called Yesques to find out more about her heart donor.
‘Hoping to learn more about her heart donor, a young doctor arrives in a mountain town where decades of mysterious tragedies plague the small community,’ Netflix’s synopsis reads.
