For those still mourning the conclusion of the BBC’s The Other Bennet Sister, there is another captivating period drama on the horizon.
The streaming platform Netflix has just unveiled a teaser clip for its forthcoming period drama inspired by the cherished books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which have been described as “masterpieces” by admirers.
The tales were based on her experiences in the American Midwest between 1872 and 1894, and one has now been reimagined for television.
Little House on the Prairie is arriving on Netflix on July 9 and the streamer announced on X, formerly Twitter: “Meet the Ingalls family as they discover what ‘home’ really means.”
The minute-long trailer depicts the contented family departing Wisconsin for the prairie, where a fresh existence awaits them.

Audiences are told: “Every day and every night was an adventure”, as the family is shown experiencing some touching moments within a stunning landscape.
The narration continues: “And even though they were all alone, and very small against the sky and the stars, they were happy because they were a family and they were together.”
The excessively sentimental trailer was watched more than two million times on X, with audiences divided over the adaptation.
One viewer said: “I’m not sure why a remake is necessary”, while another added: “Is there a creative drought? How do we exit this never ending cycle of regurgitated shows already done well that don’t need redoing?”

Meanwhile, others took to YouTube to share their enthusiasm, with one viewer declaring: “I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a release in a long time!” while another chimed in: “Yes!! bring it on, we need more shows like this, wholesome and feel-good.”
The series has already been commissioned for a second season ahead of its launch, with Netflix describing it as an “epic survival tale and an origin story of the 19th-century American West, all wrapped in a hopeful family drama”.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine told Netflix’s Tudum: “This show is a love story about a family. They’re a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with.
“That’s really at the core of what Little House on the Prairie is about: a family that is there for each other, that tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves.”
Sonnenshine has adored the books since childhood, revealing: “I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honoured and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.”
The 2026 series will star Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.
