Department Q has been a hit with Netflix viewers, with many hoping there will be a second season.
The crime drama stars Matthew Goode as DCI Carl Morck, a detective who gets moved to a police department which investigates cold cases. Season 1 of Department Q focuses on the team’s first case – the disappearance of a high-ranking civil servant, Merritt Lingard.
Actor Tom Bulpett plays Merritt’s brother, William, who is nonverbal. Tom has revealed he loved his time on the show and said he would “absolutely” return, while also teasing what fans could expect from a potential second season.
“I would love to get a lot more Department Q out there,” Tom said in an exclusive interview with The Mirror US. He added, “I’ve read all of the books so I don’t want to spoil too much, but people are in for a treat.”

The Netflix show is based on the book series of the same name, which was written by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen. The series consists of 10 books, meaning there’s the potential for plenty more Department Q seasons.

Season 1 of Department Q is based on the first book, making it likely other seasons would follow suit. Tom also heaped praise on Scott Frank, who created the Netflix series.
“Scott Frank, the writer and director, did keep the essence of the original book, so the source material, we would see in a second season,” he teased, before adding, “Scott is really good at making it his own.”
Tom admitted the response to Department Q has been “overwhelming.” He told us, “It’s wonderful people have reacted so well.”

The actor added, “In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t imagine it would be received this well. It’s the greatest project I’ve ever worked on.” He concluded, “I just felt so, so lucky to be part of it, it was incredible and I knew it was, but the reaction has been incredible.”
Since Department Q dropped on Netflix, fans have been begging for more. “DEPT Q just dropped on Netflix and it’s flying under the radar. One of the best detective shows in years. Everyone needs to watch so we get Season 2,” one person urged in a post on X.
Another viewer suggested, “Great cast and story. And perfect setup for season 2. Maybe we will finally get details on Akram’s backstory,” while a third fan added, “Agreed. The books are great, too, and I hope this means we get several more series.”
Tom Bulpett, who has previously appeared in The Mummy, is represented by BBA Management.
