It’s now Day 12 in the desperate search for little Gus Lamont, the four-year-old who disappeared without a trace from a remote campsite near Yunta.
For nearly two weeks, hundreds of volunteers, drones, and search dogs combed through the harsh outback terrain. The initial theory was simple — Gus had wandered off, maybe lost, maybe hiding somewhere nearby.
But late last night, investigators uncovered evidence that changes the entire direction of the case.
According to a police source, a small search unit found a cluster of faint footprints approximately two kilometres from the original search zone. They were too small to belong to any of the rescuers — but what shocked officers most was the second set of larger prints beside them.
“It looked like someone had been walking with him — or carrying him part of the way,” a search volunteer told reporters.
Nearby, officers also discovered a children’s toy, one of Gus’s favourite stuffed animals — but it was soaked through, despite no recent rainfall in the area. Even more chilling, tangled in the thorny bushes, they found a torn strip of dark fabric that investigators say doesn’t match any of the boy’s clothing.
The evidence, though small, paints a chilling picture.
It suggests that Gus did not simply wander off alone. Instead, someone may have taken him — moving him to another location before the first search even began.
Police have since cordoned off the new area and brought in forensic experts to test the fabric for DNA traces. The discovery has reignited hope — and fear — among the search teams who’ve been working tirelessly since the boy’s disappearance.
“This changes everything,” one senior officer admitted. “If someone moved him, then this is no longer a missing person case. It’s a criminal investigation.”
For Gus’s devastated family, the news has been both a spark of hope and a deeper wound. His mother, barely holding back tears, told local media:
“If he’s out there, please… please don’t hurt my boy. Just bring him home.” 💔
As daylight breaks over the vast Australian desert, the community that once believed Gus was lost now faces a darker possibility — that somewhere out there, someone knows exactly where he is.
And the real search, it seems, has only just begun. ⏳
