California Gavin Newsom (D) pulled no punches in recent days while attacking Fox News and roasting President Donald Trump’s attacks on the media. Newsom, who has adopted a new combative and satirical approach to social media, targeted both Brian Kilmeade and Greg Gutfeld in posts this week.

Newsom attacked Gutfeld in a post satirizing Trump’s social media style. “FOX MUST SUSPEND GARBAGE GREG GUTFELD ASAP!!! NOT ONLY DOES HE NEED A FAKE “LAUGH TRACK,” HE MAKES THINGS UP, IS NOT FUNNY, AND GETS SO EASILY TRIGGERED (LIKE A SNOWFLAKE!) WHEN JESSICA “JUST THE FACTS” TARLOV SPEAKS!!!” Newsom wrote, adding:

FOX SHOULD SUSPEND HIM IMMEDIATELY — SEND HIM TO NEWS NATION (NEXTSTAR) WHERE HIS JOKES BELONG WITH THE OTHER FAILURES!!! RATINGS CRASHING, PEOPLE BEGGING FOR IT TO STOP!!! FOX DO THE RIGHT THING OR I WILL MAKE THE FCC “TAKE CARE OF YOU.” FINAL WARNING! — GCN

Trump has long attacked journalists and cable news hosts with bombastic social media posts, often with personal attacks and calls for their termination over coverage he did not like.

Newsom also shared a recent clip of Kilmeade justifying Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension from his late-night show. “The point is that Kimmel’s comments went way too far for some television executives. Not for me, not for you, but for them. And they turned up the heat on Kimmel, the host, to calm down the rhetoric,” Kilmeade claimed. Notably, Kimmel was suspended after Trump’s FCC chair publicly threatened retaliation against ABC, and reports indicate that ABC executives were worried about retaliation.

Newsom, however, took issue with another aspect of Kilmeade’s commentary, the fact that host recently told his Fox viewers that violent homeless people should be killed. Kilmeade said in a discussion on the topic that the government should use “involuntary lethal injection or something” on the homeless, adding, “Just kill ’em.” He later apologized, calling his statement “extremely callous.”

Newsom responded to Kilmeade’s Kimmel commentary and wrote, “Says the guy who declared we should execute homeless people on television.”
