A toddler has died after a horror crash on the Sunshine Coast that left her one-year-old sister critically injured.

The collision occurred around midday last Thursday at Banya near Caloundra, leaving seven people injured across four different vehicles.

A Mitsubishi Fuso truck collided with the rear of a silver Nissan Qashqai on Banya Avenue near the intersection with Bruny Street, sending the car into a fence.

The truck continued along the road before colliding with the rear of a blue Haval station wagon stopped in a line of traffic at the intersection with Great Keppel Way.

Two young girls, Ineza King aged 3 and Itahe King aged 1, were travelling inside the blue station wagon driven by their 37-year-old mother when it was struck.

The toddlers were rushed to hospital, with three-year-old Ineza airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Almost a week after the crash, the little girl passed away on Wednesday.

Ineza’s parents say she was kind, had a beautiful soul, and was so full of life and energy.

They recall a girl who loved the outdoors, bedtime stories, and “having her beautiful hair styled by her mummy”.

Her one-year-old sister Itahe was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Their mother was also taken to hospital but was released and has stayed alongside her daughters hospital beds since the crash.

The crash sent shockwaves through the Sunshine Coast community as off-duty doctor Marcio Brussius Coelho recalled hearing the collision and racing to help, providing first aid to Ineza until an emergency helicopter arrived.

“Quite, I’d say, emotional as a father and having kids that age as well,” Coelho said while tearing up.

“But at the moment, you just have to do what you need to as a doctor.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision, urging anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

Officers are probing whether the truck driver suffered a medical episode with the 52-year-old taken to hospital in the wake of the crash.

A GoFundMe has been established for the King family, raising more than $7000 as of Thursday.
