What began as a community teddy bear hunt for young children quickly became one of Kent’s most disturbing crime scenes after families unknowingly stumbled across a suitcase containing human remains.
The suitcase was discovered at Borstal Recreation Ground in Rochester during a family fundraising event attended by parents and children.
Witness Describes Chilling Discovery
One woman attending the event said she immediately noticed something was wrong after hearing an unusually loud swarm of flies.
She said the suitcase appeared abandoned beside a snow sledge and was covered with insects.
Realizing something was seriously wrong, she focused on keeping nearby children from approaching while police were contacted.
Police Link Discovery to London Address
Investigators believe the victim suffered fatal injuries at a property in Wimbledon before the suitcase was transported approximately 40 miles to Rochester.
Officers searching the London address reportedly found evidence suggesting a violent incident had taken place.
The victim has since been identified as 34-year-old Dale Mundell.
Investigation Continues
Specialist officers continue supporting Mr. Mundell’s family as detectives work to establish exactly what happened.
Police are also asking anyone who may have information relating to the case to contact investigators.
Court proceedings involving the two accused men are scheduled to continue in the coming weeks.
