A federal judge on Friday ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release jury transcripts from Florida’s investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith made the order in compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which requires the DOJ to release all of its information on Epstein. President Trump signed the bill into law last month following a discharge vote and passage in the House, then unanimous consent in the Senate.

The law’s passage overrode any protective orders that barred the DOJ from releasing any grand jury materials.

While it is unclear when this information will be released, the DOJ and Attorney General Pam Bondi have until Dec. 19 to start releasing the files and information on Epstein.

Smith’s order comes after lawyers for Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell said their client plans to soon file a court petition challenging her detention. If her court petition succeeds, it could result in a new trial.

But Maxwell’s lawyers argued against the release of any grand jury material in compliance with the law. They said the materials’ release “would create undue prejudice so severe that it would foreclose the possibility of a fair retrial should Ms. Maxwell’s habeas petition succeed,” lawyer David Oscar Markus wrote.

Maxwell was previously found guilty of conspiring with and aiding Epstein in the sexual abuse of underage girls. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On Wednesday, Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Wednesday released photos of Epstein’s home in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The photos show the word “power” written in chalk on the wall, while masks of men’s faces adorn a dental suite.

“These new images are a disturbing look into the world of Jeffrey Epstein and his island,” Rep. Robert Garcia (Calif.), the top Democrat on the panel, said in a statement. “We are releasing these photos and videos to ensure public transparency in our investigation and to help piece together the full picture of Epstein’s horrific crimes.”

Along with the release of the files, Trump ordered Bondi to launch an investigation into Epstein’s associations with prominent Democrats, including former President Clinton and former Harvard University President Larry Summers.

The DOJ stated in a memo that a “systematic review” did not uncover any evidence on which charges against “uncharged third parties” could be based.

Among the documents released prior to the Epstein files law’s passage, House Democrats released emails written by Epstein that referred to Trump. At one point, Epstein wrote that Trump “knew about the girls.” Trump has denied any wrongdoing and association with Epstein.
