During the new season of her Netflix show, Meghan Markle revealed she was left unwell after being away from her kids, Archie and Lilibet, for almost three weeks
Meghan Markle has opened up about the emotional toll of being separated from her children for nearly three weeks.
The Duchess of Sussex, who now resides in the US with Prince Harry and their two kids, Archie and Lilibet, shared this personal insight during her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
The eight-episode lifestyle and cooking show, which premiered this week, offers fans a more intimate glimpse into Meghan’s life in Los Angeles.
While she didn’t specify the exact dates, there’s speculation that she was referring to the period following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022, when the Sussexes unexpectedly extended their stay in the UK.
The revelation came as Meghan empathized with Queer Eye star Tan France, who expressed his own heartbreak over being away from his two young children for more than a few days.
A visibly moved Meghan responded, “Oh I know. The longest I went without being around our kids was almost three weeks. “I was,” she paused, “…not well.”
Prince Harry also touched on the challenging time they spent apart from their young family in his memoir, Spare. He recounted the “difficult days” following the Queen’s death and how he and Meghan were separated from Archie and Lilibet for “longer than we’d ever been”.
Upon reuniting in California, Harry said, “For days and days, we couldn’t stop hugging the children, couldn’t let them out of our sight”.
The Prince revealed later during an ITV interview that there was a “really horrible reaction from my family members” following the Queen’s death, citing “the briefings and the leakings and the planting”.
He traveled alone to Balmoral in a last-minute rush to attempt seeing his grandmother before her passing, after his brother, the now-Prince of Wales, ignored his messages.
In his memoir, he alleged that Meghan stayed in Windsor after the now-King reportedly requested that Harry not bring his wife to Scotland.
The Sussexes had left Archie, then three, and one-year-old Lili in the care of Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in LA following their trip to Manchester for a One World Summit on September 5, 2022. They then traveled to Düsseldorf for an Invictus event and returned to London.
They were forced to extend their visit when Harry’s grandmother passed away on September 8, staying to make several public appearances, including meeting mourners alongside William and the Princess of Wales at Windsor, despite the brothers’ feud, and attending the September 19 funeral.
In her recent series, Meghan revealed what she misses most about the UK, admitted she dislikes baking, and shared how she made a “truly terrible” roast chicken on the evening Harry proposed to her.
“Honestly, one of the things I miss the most about the UK is the radio station called Magic,” said Meghan, who initially intended to apply for British citizenship after marrying Harry. Tan France joked, “Magic FM. Wow! Now sorry to say this to you publicly, but that’s such a grandma station.”
Meghan responded with a chuckle, “I’ll be that grandma”.
