A Kansas man is charged with murder after authorities accused him of fatally shooting his estranged wife.

Ivy Unruh, 25, was shot in the upper body on April 17 outside a residence in Wichita, Kan., the city’s police department said in a press release.

Unruh was taken to the hospital, where she died three days later, according to Wichita police.

A gun was recovered at the scene and Unruh’s husband, Joshua Orlando, 29, from whom she was separated, was arrested.

Orlando was charged with first-degree murder following Unruh’s death, having initially been charged with aggravated battery.

Orlando does not have an attorney listed and it is not immediately clear if he has entered a plea.

According to a GoFundMe meant to raise money for the victim’s family, Unruh was a Marine veteran.

“To those who knew her, she was more than a Marine—she was a daughter, a sister, and a friend who brought light into the lives of others,” the organizer wrote. “She had the courage to walk away from a dangerous situation, yet tragically, her life was still taken.”

KAKE reported that Unruh was a broadcast engineer for PBS Kansas.

“She was very motivated,” PBS Kansas president Victor Hogstrom told the outlet. “She was trustworthy. She worked with people well. She was smart and very intelligent. She was a good employee. We’re all missing her from here, a very dependable person.”
