More than 30 years after the horrific murder of two-year-old James Bulger shocked Britain, his younger brother has spoken out in an emotional and powerful statement — declaring that he will never forgive Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, the two boys convicted of James’s killing.
In a rare public message, he expressed deep anger and heartbreak over how the case has continued to unfold, saying he still lives with the consequences of what happened long before he was even born. “They took away a part of our family that can never be replaced,” he said. “No one truly understands what it’s like to grow up in the shadow of that pain.”

He went on to say that the justice system “failed” to protect the public, referring to Venables’ repeated run-ins with the law since his release. “It’s not justice when someone who did something so cruel is given another chance, and another, and another. I will never stop fighting until he’s locked away for good.”
James Bulger’s murder in 1993 — carried out by two ten-year-old boys — remains one of the most haunting and heartbreaking crimes in British history. The case changed the nation’s approach to youth crime, parole, and rehabilitation, and it continues to spark debate about forgiveness and justice to this day.
For the Bulger family, however, the wounds have never healed. “Our pain didn’t end when the trial ended,” the brother said. “We live with it every single day. But I’ll keep fighting for James — because someone has to.”
The statement has reignited a nationwide conversation about whether those responsible should remain under strict supervision for life. For the Bulger family, the mission is simple — to make sure James is never forgotten, and that those who took his life are never free to harm again.
