A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was attacked by a shark on a popular Queensland tourist island.

Emergency services were called to Lady Elliot Island, near Bundaberg, about 8.15am on Thursday.

A man aged in his 50s has been attacked by a shark at Lady Elliot Island.

Paramedics treated the man aged in his 50s for a deep laceration to his arm, as well as superficial lacerations to his abdomen and hand.

He was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
