A prosthetic leg washed up on the NSW Mid North Coast beach remains unclaimed, and police are working to track down its owner.

Jess White said she and her fiancé, Chris, came across the limb while fishing near Scotts Head on Sunday afternoon.

They found the leg about four kilometres from the 4WD access point, where the receding tide uncovered it.

“It had some barnacles on it, but being no expert, we can’t say how long it’s been out there.”

White immediately contacted the police after finding it, then followed their advice to hand it in.

Soon after, the find drew attention online when she shared it in a local community group.

“After speaking with the police, I posted it on the local Facebook page, and it blew up from there.”
