Two teenagers are suspected to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning in a cabin called the ‘man cave’, during a family holiday to a country park near Bridlington, a coroner has heard.

At the opening of their inquests it was revealed how Cherish Bean, 15, and Ethan Slater, 17, had left their family’s main cabin to go and watch TV together in a smaller cabin, known as the ‘man cave’. But about 50 minutes later Cherish returned to speak to her mum and told of of having a headache. She was given Calpol and returned to Cabin 31, later sending a text to her mum saying ‘goodnight’ and that she loved her.

Police said they had since taken away a boiler from the property at Little Eden Holiday Park in Bridlington. After the teens were found dead on February 18th, Cherish’s mother described her as the “perfect girl”, while Ethan was described as “the most beautiful young man to walk the earth”.

Senior coroner Paul Marks, told the inquest in Hull on Tuesday, he was opening the inquests into the ‘sad deaths’ of both Ethan Harry Slater and Cherish Adele Bean. He told how they both died in Cabin 31 – which a police officer later explained is also called the ‘man cave’ – during a family holiday to Little Eden Country Park in Carnaby.

The coroner said: “I would like to take this opportunity in extending my condolences to members of both of these young people’s families at their sad loss” which he said was “tragic and unexpected”

He then told the hearing: “The circumstances of the deaths were that on 17th February 2026 while on family holiday… the family spent the night together and Cherish and Ethan were both fit and well

“Cherish left the family for the smaller cabin with Ethan at 2100 hours to watch TV. She returned to the main cabin at 21.50 complaining of a headache, spoke to her mother and had Calpol, as the family had no paracetamol

“Cherish went back to bed in the small lodge and texted her mother at 2200 saying ‘good night’ and that she loved her..” The coroner said Ethan went back to the cabin “at a similar time”.

Det Chief inspector Ben Robinson was asked to give an update on their investigation into the “tragic case” and told the coroner they had made a fourth arrest in relation to the deaths.

“We have arrested and interviewed four suspects who are associated with the management and maintenance of the Little Eden Country Park. We have obtained witness accounts from family and friends. We have spoken to numerous persons who have contacted the police and reported that they had also stayed at the Little Eden Country Park, The Man Cave.”

He said the “Man Cave’ is the name given to Cabin 31 the coroner had mentioned earlier and explained they had taken a boiler from there. He said they had got National Crime Agency guidance about their investigation into ‘gross negligence manslaughter involving carbon monoxide poisoning’.

The coroner asked the officer if there is “reason to suspect these young deaths are associated with carbon monoxide poisoning – although the medical cause of death is still pending forensic pathologist?’ report. The officer said ‘that’s correct’.

Humberside Police announced before the hearing how a 41-year-old man was arrested on Monday, March 2 and had since been released on bail pending further inquiries. Three other men, aged 27, 33, and 42, arrested as part of the investigation, remained on conditional bail, the force said.

Police said the families of both teenagers were being kept updated as the investigation continued. The force has previously said their deaths were “thought to be connected to carbon monoxide poisoning”. The coroner has adjourned their inquests until the police investigation is concluded.

An online fundraising page set up for Ethan’s family has so far raised almost £20,000. The page says: “It is with unimaginable heartbreak that I write this. Our son Ethan tragically and unexpectedly passed away at just 17 years old, alongside his beautiful girlfriend.

“No parent should ever have to write these words. No family should ever have to face this pain.

“Ethan had his whole life ahead of him. He’ll never get to pass his driving test. He’ll never celebrate his 18th birthday. He’ll never reach the milestones we all assumed were waiting for him.”

The post continues: “He was the most kind hearted boy. With a natural warmth. He was funny, he was protective and he carried himself with a quiet strength and loyalty that made us so proud to call him our son.

“He was loved beyond measure. A son, a brother, a grandson, a friend. His smile lit up a room, and his absence has left a silence that feels impossible to fill. Our lives will never be the same without him.”

In a separate statement, Cherish’s mum paid tribute to her daughter, saying: “My perfect girl, my angel, has left this world and we are broken as a family. I am broken as a mother, and I will never ever be the same again.”

She added: “Ethan, bless you darling, such a good boy with a kind heart and I loved you like my own. I am broken please respect us whilst we grieve.”
