The father of a 16-year-old boy being treated in a Milan hospital for burns sustained in the New Year’s Eve bar fire at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana that killed 40 including six Italian teens told ANSA Thursday he now wanted to see “exemplary punishment” for those found responsible for the inferno at Le Constellation.
The man said he felt safe in Crans-Montana, but on New Year’s Eve he risked losing his sixteen-year-old son, Giuseppe, the first to be transported from Switzerland to the Niguarda Hospital in Milan.
These are difficult days for Valentino Giola, a Milanese lawyer, who explained to ANSA that he now expects “exemplary punishment” for those who made any culpable mistakes.
“We didn’t think there could be such a serious lack of safety; in a world-renowned location, we expected high standards.” Now, after what happened, we expect “exemplary punishment, otherwise the location would lose what little prestige it has retained.” Giuseppe knew all six Italian victims, and “he only learned of his friends’ passing yesterday,” he concluded.
“It’s difficult news to process, but he’s a strong guy and he’ll pull through.”
