A man has been bitten by a police dog during an arrest on a suburban street in Melbourne’s north-east.

Police were called to a unit on Boadle Road in Bundoora at about 9.20pm yesterday after reports of a man was behaving erratically.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the man but he retreated inside a property and refused to come out.

Police said they believe there was also a woman inside the property with the man.

Officers continued to attempt to negotiate with him but were unsuccessful.

Police broke down the door of the unit and arrested a 33-year-old man.

He was taken to hospital under police guard with a dog bite injury.

An officer was also left with minor injuries.

The woman inside the unit was uninjured and police believe the pair are known to one another.
