As the eighth day of Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 rolls around, Team Australia has plenty to look forward to with a host of events and medal opportunities.
The first point of interest for the day comes in Alpine skiing, with Harry Laidlaw competing in the men’s giant slalom. Run one will be followed shortly after by run two, which will conclude with the medal ceremony.
Staying on the snow, Jakara Anthony is looking for redemption in the women’s dual moguls. After finishing eighth in the individual event, which she came into as the defending champion, the three-time Olympian is hoping to bounce back alongside teammate Charlotte Wilson. Wilson is having a breakthrough Winter Games, finishing sixth in the women’s individual final on her Olympic debut.
Another Olympian looking to turn things around in Italy is Brendan Corey, who will return to the ice for the men’s 500m speed skating qualifiers. After failing to reach the final of the 1500m, he’ll be looking to avoid that same disappointment this time around.
Turning attention back to the snow, a trio of events will wrap up Saturday’s action. In cross-country skiing, there’s a quartet of Aussies looking to clinch some hardware in the women’s 4×7.5km relay. Led by the experienced Ellen Soehol Lie on her own Olympic debut, young skiers Phoebe Cridland, Rosie Fordham, and Maddie Hooker are all looking to continue their enjoyable maiden outing on this stage. The first three were in the team that finished 12th in this event at the FIS Nordic World Championships last year. Then it is the turn of Darcie Morton, as she continues to build on her debut Winter Games, this time in the women’s 7.5km biathlon sprint.
Seeing out the action will be teen freeski hopeful Daisy Thomas, who will make her Olympic debut in the Big Air after being forced to withdraw from slopestyle through injury. It has been touch-and-go for the 18-year-old, but an official return to on-snow training in recent days bodes well going into qualifiers.
