A TEEN has tragically died after plunging to his death from a cell spotlight tower while trying to get pictures for social media.

Timothee Englund, 16, died after losing his footing on the enclosed tower at a waterfront park in Brooklyn, New York City.

He had been taking photos of the sweeping city skyline on Friday when he fell 15 feet from the top of the structure.

The metal tower in Bushwick Inlet Park in Williamsburg had been closed off by a chain-link fence with a large gap underneath it, the New York Daily News reported.

The teen had slipped through the large gap before scaling the tower, prior to his death.

Timothee was rushed to the Bellevue Hospital in a critical condition after emergency services responded to a 911 call about the fall.

He was unconscious and unresponsive and later died from his injuries.

Timothee’s distraught parents Yvette and Tobias Englund remembered their son as “goofy” and “funny”.

“He was amazing, he was loving,” Yvette, 52, told the New York Post.

“We cracked a lot of jokes,” Tobias, 57, added.

Timothee loved to play sports and was a sophomore at Manhattan Village Academy.

He had planned on joining the wrestling team in the fall.

The liberal arts school is located in the Flatiron neighborhood of Manhattan.

“He was a high school kid,” his devastated father said.

“He was an athlete.

“He played soccer and pickup basketball when we went to the gym.”

The family lives just six blocks away from the scene of Timothee’s catastrophic fall.

Medical supplies and trash littered the area around the tower following the first responders’ attendance to the horrific fall.

Yvette and Tobias are still searching for answers as to how their son fell and why he would take such a dangerous risk.

“We don’t know what happened,” Tobias said.

The park is a reportedly popular spot for local teens.

Reporters spoke to local teens at the time of the fall, one of whom said they came to the park “all the time”.

Several people had been in the park enjoying the nearly 60-degree high of the first day of spring, according to News12 Brooklyn.

“That’s so sad. It’s absolutely tragic,” one person told the outlet.

It is unknown who was with Timothee at the time of the fall or who reported the tragic accident to police.

No criminal activity has been detected and no subsequent arrests have been made.

The investigation remains ongoing.
