Two people have been charged after police allegedly found $13 million worth of methylamphetamine hidden in a car in regional Victoria.

A 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman from Hillsdale in NSW were arrested after officers intercepted a car on the Hume Highway in Wangaratta.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly seized 33kg of methylamphetamine.

Cameron Love and Isabella Anderson were both charged with trafficking a large commercial drug of dependence, with both cases heard in the Wangaratta Magistrates Court yesterday.Mr Love did not apply for bail, while Ms Anderson’s bail application was refused. They will face court again on July 30 for a committal mention.

Police said the arrests came after an investigation into drug trafficking between NSW and Victoria.

Detective Inspector Jamie Walker from Victoria Police’s Major Drug Squad said combating drugs remained a major focus of the force.

“We have zero tolerance for those bringing harm to our community by importing and trafficking drugs of any kind,” Detective Inspector Walker said.

Drugs were a major driver of crime, and the arrests were illustrative of police’s commitment to combat illicit substance trade in Victoria, he said.

“Our team has relentlessly tracked down offenders as part of this investigation and in turn have removed considerable quantities of drugs from the streets.”
