Richard Madeley Brings His Own Bread Roll to Pub Lunch Amid £10M Fortune — And That’s Not Even the Most Shocking Part

He’s worth an estimated £10 million and earns hundreds of thousands a year from ITV — yet Richard Madeley stunned onlookers this week by pulling a crusty bread roll out of his own bag during a pub lunch in London. The 69-year-old presenter was spotted dining al fresco at the Duke of York on Tuesday, ordering a simple bowl of soup and a large glass of rosé — but apparently, pub bread wasn’t on the menu. Instead, Richard brought his own roll, proving that even millionaires enjoy a quirky money-saving moment.

Dressed casually in a white T-shirt and still wearing a wrist strap from a recent double fracture, Richard looked relaxed despite the whirlwind of media chatter surrounding him.Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan step out in the Spring sunshine as they enjoy a pub lunch together in north London | Daily Mail Online

“Gravity Won” — Richard’s Painful Holiday Fall Revealed on GMB

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Richard opened up about the dramatic injury.

“It is a double fracture of the wrist,” he told co-host Susanna Reid. “I was walking quite quickly down a steep pavement… in France actually.”

“It was loose and it flipped up. It flipped me forward and I thought, ‘Am I going to win or is gravity going to win?’ Gravity won. I hit the ground hard.”

Despite Susanna’s concern, Richard brushed it off with his signature stoicism:

“I’m not discussing the pain threshold. We don’t think about pain.”

Health Scares Keep Coming

But the injury wasn’t his only health issue. Just days later, he turned up to GMB sounding croaky and nursing a sore throat.

“I think it’ll get stronger throughout the programme. That’s my prediction,” he joked.

GMB ‘Bloodbath’: Was Richard Madeley Nearly Axed?

Behind the scenes, Richard’s future at ITV has been anything but secure. In May, The Sun reported he was on the chopping block as ITV began cutting costs in a so-called daytime TV bloodbath.

Sources claim Richard — reportedly on a £300K salary — was initially furious when told his role could be axed. However, after tense meetings with senior executives, he managed to negotiate a part-time deal with a significant pay cut.

Meanwhile, Lorraine Kelly, 65, also faced pressure to step down after her show was slashed to 30 minutes. She allegedly declined to retire and intends to finish her £500K contract before bowing out in 2026.

What’s Next for the Daytime Legend?

Despite the setbacks — health scares, contract shake-ups, and viral bread-roll moments — Richard seems to be taking it all in stride. Whether it’s budgeting in style or battling through broadcasts with a busted wrist and sore throat, one thing is for sure: Richard Madeley isn’t going quietly.
