Prince William and Princess Catherine have a special bolthole in Scotland, where they like to hide away when they want to stay away from the public eye. The Prince and Princess of Wales are often seen in Scotland but then they are there, they prefer to stay at their own private residence instead of Balmoral Castle.

The royals usually head to Scotland for their summer holidays. William and Catherine have chosen a cottage called Tam-Na-Ghar as their holiday home in Scotland, located within the 50,000-acre Balmoral Estate.

The three-bedroom cottage was gifted to Prince William by his late great-grandmother, the Queen Mother.

It is in close proximity to Birkhall, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s private residence.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have chosen to keep their Scottish home extremely private, with very few images of the property available. The royal couple are believed to have stayed at the cottage when first dating.

Speaking to Country Life magazine in 2018, Prince William spoke about his love for Scotland.

He said: “A big part of me is also in Scotland—my family has deep connections there and it was such a fun part of my childhood and upbringing.”

The annual trip north of the border is one of the Royal Family’s long-standing summer traditions, when the family get to hunt, go horse riding and fish.

Balmoral is nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, between Ballater and Braemar.

It’s located approximately 50 miles west of Aberdeen.

The estate is also home to Balmoral Castle, where the Queen and Prince Philip liked to stay for their holidays.
