Martin Brundle launches fresh dig at Jimmy Fallon after Miami GP grid walk incident

The bizarre encounter took place before Sunday’s race.

Martin Brundle has taken to social media to react to Jimmy Fallon’s bizarre grid walk incident. The American comedian went viral over the weekend after he chewed the Formula One presenter’s microphone ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

An over-enthusiastic Fallon had greeted Brundle with plenty of energy, but things went a little off-piste when the comic snatched the microphone and started biting the sleeve. Brundle was taken aback by the saga and wrapped up his segment by saying: “Don’t do that again”.

Brundle has since posted on X, with the 66-year-old remarking: “In 30 years of broadcasting I’ve never wondered what a branded microphone sock tastes like. There’s some very funny people around [confused emoji].”

It was certainly a first for Brundle, who cut a surprised figure throughout the exchange with Fallon. It had started with the television host saying: “Oh my God, Martin Brundle! What are you up to? What do you need? Can I get anything for you?”

“I need some funny lines, I need everything,” said Brundle. “What are we doing here?” Fallon asked as he put the mic’s wind shield in his mouth. “You’re the best. First time here, it’s nuts, crazy, I’m loving it. Miami is a great host. I’m going for Red Bull, I’m going for Max, he’s going to crush it.

“I’ve been here, hanging out, good restaurants, good people, good fun. It’s loud, and it’s exciting. I’m so happy to see you, I was hoping to see you. This is the highlight,” he continued as he chaoticly looked looked into the camera and pointed towards his interview. “Do not take my mic sock again,” said Brundle as he looked to make a swift exit.

The race had been at risk of getting postponed, as thunderstorms in the Miami Gardens area were forecast. It’s prohibited by US law for any outdoor events to take place while thunderstorms are forecasted, but thankfully for everyone involved, the race got underway as planned.

It was the first time since March that a Grand Prix had taken place, given both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races were cancelled because of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Andrea Kimi Antonelli started on pole and extended his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with another victory, closely followed by reigning champion Lando Norris, who enjoyed his best finish of the season so far.
