Charles Leclerc was left gobsmacked when the Ferrari star was pulled up about his anniversary with his new partner. Leclerc was taking part in an interview ahead of the Miami Grand Prix when he was reminded of a special date he might’ve missed.
The interviewer told the Monegasque ace that his wedding had taken place two months to the day, which looked as if it took Leclerc by surprise. His eyebrows raised and mouth wide open, Leclerc responded: “Oh my- yeah, true. But the months are ok, I’ll do something special for the year.”
By the end of the weekend though, Leclerc had other things to worry about, given he was demoted to eighth following a post-race investigation. During his final lap, Leclerc damaged his car against the barrier while spinning off the track and was overtaken by George Russell and Max Verstappen.
He was handed a post-race penalty for corner-cutting, which cost him two further places in the standings. Reacting to the incident, Leclerc said: “Very disappointed with my mistake.
“It shouldn’t happen. I pushed very hard on the second-to-last lap, I thought it was a good idea to kind of let Oscar go for me to get the overtake. I knew it was going to be very difficult to stay in front otherwise.
“But it was a very poor decision, and in the space of four corners I put a very strong race in the bin, so I’m very frustrated about that.”

Meanwhile, Leclerc’s team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, who finished seventh but was promoted to sixth after Leclerc’s penalty, was also left feeling frustrated post-race. He remarked: “Seventh and a seventh, just in no man’s land in both races, but particularly today with the damage.
“There was nothing I could do. Really unfortunate because the team worked so hard. To come away with xx points – we have to move on from here.” I was unlucky with Max spinning [at the second corner], I had to go to the right of him.
“I had a good Turn One and I was in a good position and then the only way I could go was right. Then I lost positions from there, and then I think it was Franco that hit me, and I lost a lot of performance from there.”
Formula One will have another two-week break now before heading to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix at the end of the month.
