A CHILD has been hospitalised after a house fire tore apart a double-storey home as 70 firefighters battled the blaze.

A team of 10 fire engines tackled the flames and rescued a man, woman and boy who were raced to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The blaze ripped through the ground floor, first floor and roof of the two-storey home said the fire brigade.

Emergency services scrambled to the end-of-terrace-house in Morden, south London, after reports of a blaze in the early hours of this morning.

London Fire Brigade received 17 calls about the inferno on Halesowen Road.

The first calls were taken at 4.04am and ten fire engines from crews in Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon, New Malden, Wallington, Tooting and Norbury rushed to the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but it is now under control, a spokesperson for the fire service said.

They added: “Firefighters are using a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower to extinguish the Morden fire from above.”
