The mother of another recent graduate who died last year has offered her support to the young man’s family.

A recent graduate of a prestigious Sydney boys’ school died of an injury sustained while interstate on Monday.
Oscar Todd, in the graduating class of 2025 at The King’s School, was in North Queensland when he suffered the injury two days earlier.
“Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Oscar did not recover and sadly passed away,” The King’s School said in a statement.
His passing comes less than six months after the death of his fellow classmate Astin Gerstl.
Gerstl was celebrating Schoolies on Little Bay Beach in Arakoon on the NSW Mid North Coast when he was swept away in a rip late last year. His remains were discovered on the beach the next day.
Gerstl’s mother, Amy Cartwright, reached out to Todd’s parents in a comment on The King’s School online tribute on Thursday to offer her support.
“I know the nightmare all too well,” she said. “I’m sure its all an awful blur right now.”

The school remembered Todd as a creative, athletic, and admired young man.
“Oscar was a gifted visual artist and talented sportsman. He brought creativity and imagination to all he undertook,” The King’s School statement reads.
“His warmth, humour and steady presence made him a treasured friend to many and a young man admired by staff and students alike.”
He was a rugby player, and a rower, and a staff sergeant in The King’s School Cadet Corps.
“His connection to King’s ran deep,” the school said.
Todd joined the school in Year 6, and comes from a line of Old Boys; the name given to students and alumni of the school. His brother graduated from the school in 2024, his father in 1991, and his uncle and cousin also attended the school.
‘Loved by everyone’
Hundreds of messages of condolence for Todd’s grieving family have begun to flow on social media, alongside heartfelt tributes to Todd.
“Oscar was such a beautiful soul who was loved by everyone,” one person said,
“What a legend of a man. Gone too young,” another said.
“I will forever cherish those Melrose bus trips,” another said.
“We were so lucky to know you mate. You were the most amazing influence on the people around you and you’ve left an enormous hole that can never be filled. Your mates miss you so much,” another said.
