CCTV shows the moment the police car came ‘flying down’ the street and crashed through a garage.

A family has been left stunned after a police car crashed into their home for the second time in two years.

The vehicle, travelling under lights and sirens responding to an assault call in Guildford West, smashed into the house on Holroyd Rd in Merrylands in Western Sydney about 5pm on Monday.

CCTV footage shows the car speeding over a speed hump before hurtling towards the house and crashing through the garage, causing significant damage.

The garage partially collapsed, while the front of the paddy wagon was badly damaged, with smoke billowing from the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The family was forced to stay elsewhere for the night due to the damage.

7NEWS understands the homeowner had been standing outside with his grandchildren just moments before the crash.

The house sits next to Hilltop Road Public School, which was closed for the day when the incident happened.

Joe, a witness who happened to be nearby, said the car was “flying down” the road before he heard a “big bang”.

“I heard the car come flying down with lights and sirens,” Joe said.

“Next minute I hear this almighty screech and then a big bang into the house.

“I think they just hit the corner a bit too fast.”

Police said the vehicle was responding to a job on urgent duty, but was not involved in a pursuit, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The homeowner said it was the second time a police vehicle had crashed into the property.

In 2024, another police car involved in a pursuit crashed into the front fence, though the damage was not as severe.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway.

Police said they are “working with its insurance provider to arrange the necessary repairs”.
