etflix viewers have been left “so conflicted” after a first look at the new reboot of Little House on the Prairie dropped online.

The beloved show was based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series and was first adapted for screens in 1974. It quickly became a favourite, running up until 1983 and consolidating the stardom of actors like Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert.

Now, Netflix is creating a new eight-part series that aims to bring the story of the Ingalls family to a whole new generation, with a brand new cast and vision in mind. While some viewers are counting down the days for its release, others are skeptical about what a remake will add to the iconic franchise.

Perfect for Yellowstone fans, the new series is set to be one of the biggest show launches on the streamer this year and will explore a “kaleidoscopic view” of the struggles and triumphs of the Ingalls family as they begin a new life out west.

What happens in the new teaser?

The teaser clip opens with the narration of a young Laura Ingalls (Alice Halsey), who begins with a story: “Once upon a time, Ma and Pa and Mary and Laura left the Big Woods of Wisconsin and moved to the prairie, where a new life was waiting for them.”

Accompanied by a montage that introduces viewers to the new faces bringing the Ingalls family to life, Laura continues: “Every day and every night was an adventure. And even though they were all alone, and very small against the sky and the stars, they were happy because they were a family and they were together.”

What have viewers said about the teaser?

Viewers were quick to take to Instagram to share their thoughts on the first look.

“I loved this TV show so can’t wait for this,” penned one fan, while another said: “OMG! My childhood has returned!” A third added: “A new generation will fall in love with the Ingalls.”

Not everyone was convinced, however, as one person commented: “SO conflicted – hopefully the story will stay close to the books, otherwise why shatter my childhood?”

Meanwhile, another protested: “No… the original will never be replaced,” while a third said: “The original is so good, really hope Netflix does this justice.”

What to expect from Little House on the Prairie

Told over eight parts, the new series is once again based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which fictionally charted her real-life experience of moving to the Midwest during the 1800s.

The Netflix synopsis reads: “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
