Fans praise the lead actors and believe they should have received Oscar nominations

A film praised as one of ‘the saddest’ of the decade and the ‘best movie since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ will soon be departing Netflix.
Released in UK cinemas on New Year’s Day last year, it arrived on the streaming service just months afterwards. Yet subscribers now have limited time to watch the star-studded romance We Live in Time.
Frequently recommended as the ideal choice for viewers seeking an emotional release, it swiftly established itself within the romance genre upon release. This success owes much to the leading performances from Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.
Whilst both actors are perhaps better recognised for their Marvel roles – Garfield having played Spider-Man in the Sony reboot and Pugh establishing herself as Yelena Belova across multiple MCU projects – they deliver something distinctly different here.
The synopsis reveals that the pair portray Almut and Tobias, whose lives are transformed by an unexpected encounter. Through glimpses of their shared journey – falling in love, creating a home, starting a family – a challenging truth emerges that threatens their foundation, reports the Mirror.

As they navigate a path constrained by time’s limitations, they discover how to treasure every moment of their unconventional love story. Helmed by John Crowley, director of Brooklyn and Boy A, the narrative unfolds across a decade using a non-linear structure.
The film has been largely praised by critics, with one review describing it as ‘devastating’ and another even labelling it the ‘saddest film of the decade’. However, Netflix has now announced that the final day to watch the film will be 28 February.
One viewer was so moved by the film that they declared it the “best movie since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. They added: “Honestly one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time, I thought it was just a romance comedy but no this is way more than that, I have never teared up throughout an entire movie but this movie was something else, the entire 2 hours I was lost for words.”

Another person remarked: “Heartfelt and unforgettable. We Live in Time is a deeply emotional journey through love, memory, and loss. Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield shine with raw, honest performances.
“The non-linear storytelling mirrors how we remember life in beautiful, scattered pieces. Quietly powerful and heartbreakingly human, this film lingers long after the credits roll.
A fan enthused: “Absolutely a must see! It will tug at the heart strings and hit the funny bone more than once. I loved it and would recommend it to everyone.”
We Live In Time is streaming on Netflix until February 28.
