On Thursday, police in Antioch, California, located roughly 51 miles outside of San Francisco, released the bodycam footage and announced the arrest of Dominick DeSouza, 23.
The footage has shown police responding to an armed robbery on February 20.
The suspects were seen backing a car into a store and shattering its windows.
A store employee told police one of the suspects had threatened him with a gun.
As police arrived at the scene, one officer was seen getting into the passenger side of the suspect’s vehicle.
Moments after, the suspect was seen accelerating and driving away as the cop remained in the passenger seat.
The cop was repeatedly heard telling DeSouza to “stop the car” as he continued to drive away.
Instead of stopping, DeSouza told the officer to “get out” of the car.
“I’m gonna crash,” DeSouza said.
The cop appeared to try and grab DeSouza’s arm as he continued to say, “Get out of the car.”
“I’m going to crash this motherf*****g car, I ain’t going to jail,” DeSouza said.
The cop was seen trying to put the car into neutral but DeSouza was seen repeatedly fighting back.
As the bodycam footage continued, the cop was seen pulling out his gun and telling DeSouza he was going to shoot.
“I got a family, just get out,” DeSouza said. “Just get out of the car.”
DeSouza continued to argue with the cop, saying, “Put the gun down, I don’t trust you.”
The cop then attempted to hit DeSouza with the butt of the gun.
After refusing to stop, the cop shot DeSouza in the leg “to reduce the likelihood of a fatality.”

DeSouza then crashed the car into another parked car nearby and attempted to run away.
He was found hiding in a bush nearby and arrested shortly after, police said.
The Antioch Police Department has since placed the cop on administrative leave.
The department’s investigation bureau and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office are actively investigating the armed robbery and the shooting.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to the Antioch Police Department for comment.
