Netflix’s hit detective series has entered production on season 2 with the location and plot details confirmed

Netflix has confirmed the new location and storyline for the second season of what many consider to be the streamer’s ‘best detective series in years’.

Starring Eric Bana, the six-part series Untamed arrived on the platform last year and made an immediate impact.

It swiftly became one of the most-watched programmes amongst subscribers, and despite initially being marketed as a limited series, a follow-up instalment is now in the works.

The first season saw Bana portray federal agent Kyle Turner, who patrols the vast wilderness of the National Parks Service to enforce the law.

The grisly discovery of a young woman’s body propels Turner into a disturbing investigation that becomes entangled with the park’s dark secrets and his own troubled past.

He is supported by his former mentor and partnered with a rookie from the Los Angeles city police force. His mission is to educate the newcomer about the dangers of the wilderness whilst they uncover truths concealed within Yosemite’s stunning landscape.

Netflix has not only confirmed that season two has begun production, but has also revealed the first plot details. Additionally, we now know where Bana’s character has ended up after he was seen departing from his past in the season one finale, reports the Mirror.

The streaming giant has announced via their Tudum website that Agent Turner will tackle a fresh case in Hawaii. According to the website: “In its second season, Untamed follows special agent Kyle Turner as he’s called to investigate a mysterious death in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, where local tensions and the volatile, living landscape become an unpredictable force.”

Co-creators and executive producers Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, who also wrote American Primeval for the platform, commented: “We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite.

“Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what’s so fascinating [about] getting to choose a new park.”

Viewers will be pleased to learn that whilst portions of Canada doubled for the US National Park previously, the second series is anticipated to be filmed entirely on location in Hawaii.

Notably, the creators also reveal this isn’t the first park Kyle has visited since departing Yosemite, whilst explaining when the narrative resumes. Mark stated: “This won’t be the first park he’s been in. It’s been a year and a half after leaving Yosemite. He’s been to a lot of parks. He’s been busy. He’s been taking on a lot of cases.”

Elle further elaborated: “Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive. We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character, and it will play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.”

Untamed has earned an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One enthusiast declared: “The best detective series since the first True Detective. Could not stop watching from the first minute of the series.”

Another fan praised: “Untamed is amazing. Eric Bana is incredible-quiet, intense, and completely believable as a man dealing with insurmountable grief while trying to solve a mystery in Yosemite. The show looks stunning; the park feels like its own character with breathtaking shots of cliffs, forests, and rivers.”

A third viewer shared: “Loved this show, it’s a real tear jerker but also kept me on the edge of my seat. This is one of the very best shows Netflix has put out. Great story telling, great actors and beautiful scenery.”

One person recommended: “If you like Dept. Q and Yellowstone, don’t sleep on Netflix’s wild murder mystery Untamed”. Another chimed in: “I binged watched Untamed. It was beyond what I thought it would be.

“The cast, setting, suspense, storyline, back stories, and the emotional roller coaster the viewer is put through made getting up at 3am when Netflix made it available worth it.”

Untamed is streaming on Netflix.
