A “bizarre” true crime documentary is set to hit Netflix imminently, drawing viewers into a spine-chilling investigation that has “baffled detectives for almost 20 years”. Murder on the Doorstep delves into the brutal killing of Scottish banker Alistair Wilson, who was shot on the doorstep of his family home in Nairn, Scotland in 2004. Shockingly, the case remains unsolved to this day.
The gripping true crime feature, running at just over one hour, is due to arrive on Netflix this Sunday, March 1. Netflix describes it as: “This documentary re-examines the motives and mysteries behind the 2004 murder of banker Alistair Wilson – one of Scotland’s most puzzling unsolved crimes.” Some viewers may already be familiar with the documentary, as Murder on the Doorstep originally aired on Channel 5 in 2022.

Those without a Netflix subscription can also catch it on My5. Hailed as essential viewing for true crime enthusiasts, the disturbing documentary explores the enormous enigma that has fuelled debate for decades.

From the very opening moments, viewers are thrust headlong into the harrowing and frenzied emergency call made following the tragic incident, accompanied by a voiceover declaring: “It was a cold blooded murder that shocked Britain.”

The documentary explores the baffling case, transporting audiences back to 2004 through poignant interviews and archive news footage. It features testimony from journalists who reported on the disturbing investigation at the time alongside expert analysis.

Posting on TikTok to alert true crime enthusiasts about its forthcoming Netflix debut, one true crime devotee explained: “It tells the story of one of Britain’s most mysterious unsolved murders, the killing of Scottish banker Alistair Wilson who was shot on his doorstep in 2004.

“I have actually watched this documentary twice, it is really really interesting and it is absolutely baffling.”
