‘Masterpiece’ Netflix show like Stranger Things is so good it’ll ‘steal your time’

A brand new ‘masterpiece’ sci-fi show on Netflix has quickly been compared to Stranger Things after it recently premiered on the streaming platform.

A brand new sci-fi show has Stranger Things fans hooked, as it’s got all the elements viewers loved from the hit show, but with a unique group of heroes.

While it’s been months since the hit Netflix show Stranger Things came to an end, fans have been desperate to find a new show that lives up to the same hype as the sci-fi drama show, and think they may have just found it in this eight-part series.

Taking to social media, film and TV enthusiast Luke, who is known as Eccy on TikTok, has shared his brand new ‘obsession’ he claimed to have binge watched the eight episodes, comparing it to that of Stranger Things and Steven Spielberg films.

“So if you have Netflix and you’re looking for something to binge watch this weekend, I have found the perfect show for you,” Eccy told viewers.

All episodes of new eight-part mystery thriller with an other worldly twist, The Boroughs are currently available to stream on Netflix, having premiered on 21 May.

He added: “Eight episodes have just dropped on Netflix. I’ve binge watched the entire thing, and if you’re a fan of Stranger Things or Steven Spielberg films, this is exactly what you need.”

The TV fan continued his comparison to Stranger Things, saying it had the same sci-fi, adventure, and mystery themes, but instead of following a group of kids, it takes place at a retirement community.

The show follows the character of Sam Cooper, played by Alfred Molina, who moves into the retirement community called The Boroughs after his wife dies. However, he soon discovers a monster is stalking the neighbourhood. He then decided to team up with a group of ‘misfits’ to combat an otherworldly threat.

The mission soon proves that “their ‘golden years’ are more dangerous and they are more formidable than anyone expects”, Todum reports.

“I’ve binge watched the whole entire thing. I’m not comparing it to the levels of Stranger Things, but it really does give you that Stranger Things fix,” Eccy praised. “It’s a great laugh, it has good vibes, it’s great for the sci-fi element.”

While it was co-created by writers of a Lord of the Rings spin-off movie Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, it is being billed as the latest project from the creators of Stranger Things, The Duffer Brothers, who are credited as executive producers on The Boroughs.

Speaking to Tudum, they said: “While the characters are a little older than the kids in Stranger Things – they ride golf carts instead of bikes – the spirit is very much the same.

“At its core, this is a story about belonging and growing up – no matter your age – filled with adventure, wonder, comedy, scares, and tears.

“And most importantly, you’re going to fall in love with these characters.”

The eight episodes of The Boroughs is currently streaming on on Netflix.
