Viewers are demanding a second series of Channel 5’s gripping crime drama, praising its compelling “twists and turns.”

The four-part thriller, titled Number One Fan, has been hailed as “a gripping thriller where fame hides dangerous secrets”, and it’s easy to see why audiences have been hooked.

The show, which has been described as a “masterpiece”, centres on former Strictly winner Jill Halfpenny as much-loved television presenter Lucy Logan, who finds herself the target of an obsessive admirer named Donna, played by Coronation Street favourite Sally Lindsay, a woman harbouring a dark and troubling past.

The synopsis continues: “With a hit morning show, huge following on social media, and a gorgeous family, her life is perfect. Enter Donna.

“Walking through a car park, Lucy’s handbag is swiped by a mugger, and Donna intervenes to save the day. Donna is Lucy’s biggest fan, and Lucy invites her to visit her on the set of her show in gratitude.

“Lucy thinks that’s the end of it, but wherever Lucy goes, Donna’s there too. In her studio, with audiences, at launch events, when she’s shopping, on the school run, outside her house. Lucy can’t escape her, as what starts off as an obsessive fan turns sinister.”

Sally Lindsay previously described the series as “dark and a bit of a rollercoaster”, giving viewers a tantalising glimpse into the drama’s unpredictable nature.

She said: “You think it’s taking you down one path with this famous TV presenter, the queen of daytime television, who meets someone who adores her, and then you go down this completely different path that you’re not expecting.

“When I read it, I was like, ‘Well, I didn’t see that coming.’ It’s quite contemporary, but it also explores television’s past and things that just wouldn’t happen now. For me and for Jill, we’ve been knocking around for nearly 30 years, so we remember living through all that.”

The thriller wrapped up earlier this month, and the finale has left viewers clamoring for more, with them now pleading with show bosses for a second series.

One fan posted: “This was brilliant. And it was obvious that the twists weren’t going to end anytime soon!! Defo begging for a series 2!!!”

Another remarked, “Sally was one scary fan! Great show, got to be series 2.” A third urged: “Need series 2!”

One fan observed: “I’ve loved watching the number one fan.” Another posted: “INCREDIBLE! Binged the entire show, wonderful by all! Jill, Sally, and Sharlene delivered masterpiece performances.”

Meanwhile, one viewer joked: “These two will never let it rest, that’s for sure!!! It’s like watching a championship chess match.”
