Geri Halliwell looking emotional in a scene from Drive to Survive

One of the biggest moments of the Formula 1 season was the sacking of Christian Horner – and the moment Geri Halliwell-Horner found out features in Netflix’s Drive to Survive

ne of Netflix’s biggest successes of recent years has been its Drive to Survive series, which follows the lives of Formula 1’s best drivers and their respective teams both on and off the track.

As much as last season belonged to McLaren and ultimately Lando Norris, one of the biggest things that kept F1 fans talking was the surprise sacking of Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner, who had been heading the team since 2005.

The cameras were present in the businessman’s Oxfordshire home where he spoke with his wife, former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell-Horner, and she was seen getting emotional over his news.

The moment took place in the show’s fourth episode, A Bull Without Horns. Christian approached his wife to simply say: “All… all done and dusted.” She quickly comforted him before asking how he was feeling.

“Of course your immediate reaction when you get delivered a [expletive] sandwich like that is, like, [expletive] them,” Christian responded. “I’ve had something taken away from me that wasn’t my choice, that was very precious to me.”

Geri then added: “But you thought it was going to happen. We came back from that Austria race, and I remember you sat on the bed one night and went, ‘Something really bad’s gonna happen’.”

Christian was sacked midway through the 2025 season

The couple were seen watching a race in a later episode, where Geri admitted she felt “a bit sad watching this”, with her eyes welling with tears.

Christian was sacked midway through the 2025 season, although no reason was ever given for the move. It did, however, come after Red Bull failed to win the 2024 Constructors Championship and following an investigation over allegations of inappropriate behaviour was made against him. Christian was cleared in the subsequent investigation.

Geri and Christian’s relationship

Geri and Christian didn’t start dating until 2014, but the pair had met years prior when the singer was a guest of Bernie Ecclestone at the Monaco Grand Prix in 2009.

“She was a guest of Bernie Ecclestone’s in Monaco one year and came down the pit lane,” Christian previously said. “I remember [McLaren boss] Ron Dennis was standing next to me and Eddie Jordan was there as well. Anyway, she gave Ron a kiss on the cheek, and she gave Eddie a kiss on the cheek. So I thought, ‘OK, I’m on for a kiss on the cheek here!’ And I went to give her one and she shoved her hand out at me.”

The couple were engaged in November 2014, although the announcement was a low-key posting in The Times. They said ‘I do’ on Friday 15 May 2015 at St Mary’s Church in Bedfordshire in front of their family and friends.

Geri’s daughter Bluebell, who was nine years old at the time, made the sweetest gesture on the special day and walked her mother down the aisle wearing a beautiful blue dress and a stunning floral crown made up of freesias.

The pair married in 2015

Talking about her big day with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Geri said: “People talk about their wedding day and until you get there, you don’t really know what it’s going to be like, it truly was the happiest day of my life, it was so amazing.

“The thing is my mother, she got divorced so it kind of put me off a bit if I’m honest and I hadn’t met anyone that I felt it was right [with] really,” said Geri. “And when I met Christian, I automatically knew, I did, I actually said to my friend, ‘I think I’ve met the man I want to marry’.”

Both Geri and Christian were already parents when they wed, but the pair have since welcomed son Monty, nine.
