King Charles’s ruthlessness in stripping Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of all his royal titles and honours may have made for uncomfortable viewing for Prince Harry.
The Duke of Sussex does not have a good relationship with his disgraced uncle, who stepped back as a working royal just months before Harry and Meghan relinquished their own royal duties.
GB News understands that Harry feels the sanctions taken against Andrew were entirely a matter for the Royal Household to decide upon.
However, the decisive action taken by King Charles may have set a precedent that could be used against other royals in the future.

The sanctions were placed upon Andrew due to his historical serious lapses of judgment, according to royal sources.
Andrew had a public friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Virginia Giuffre, who took her own life earlier this year, alleged that she had sex on three separate occasions with Andrew while being trafficked by Epstein as a teenager.
The royal has consistently denied all allegations against him, having reached a financial settlement with Ms Giuffre in 2022, made without any admission of liability.
Ms Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, Nobody’s Girl, was released earlier this month, where she made fresh allegations against the disgraced royal.

The recent developments surrounding Andrew sparked the King’s decision to take away his brother’s titles and honours in the most immediate and efficient way possible, according to sources.

King Charles sent Royal Warrants to the Lord Chancellor to secure the removal of the Dukedom of York from the Peerage Roll, and the Title of Prince and Style of ‘Royal Highness’.
The King opted not to go through Parliament to sanction Andrew, as he felt it would take up precious time and prevent Parliament from focusing on urgent national issues.
Instead, the monarch is doing all he can within his own Royal Prerogative. The Government has been clear that it is constitutionally proper for the King to take this action and that it supports the decision taken.

The fact that the King was able to bypass Parliament, with the support of the Government, to take action against a fellow royal is incredibly significant.
It could even have set a precedent that future monarchs use to sanction other members of the Royal Family.
The King’s eldest son and heir to the throne, Prince William, fully supported the action taken against his uncle.
The Prince of Wales is known to have a strained relationship with his brother, Prince Harry, with the pair avoiding each other at several events over the last two and a half years.

The current bitter and broken relationship between the King’s two sons stems from the Duke of Sussex’s decision to launch multiple public attacks on the Royal Family from 2021 to 2023.
Prince Harry did several TV interviews, firing digs at the monarchy alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, with the most notable taking place in March 2021 with Oprah Winfrey.
The Sussexes’ interview with Ms Winfrey sent shockwaves across the world and led to Prince William telling journalists: “We’re very much not a racist family.”
The Prince of Wales’s frustration with his younger brother grew stronger over the following two years as Prince Harry discussed royal matters in a Netflix documentary in 2022 before issuing a tell-all autobiography in January 2023.

The memoir, which contained several attacks on key members of the Royal Family, including William’s wife, Princess Kate, was the most damaging blow in the feud between the brothers.
Since then, Prince William has kept his distance from Prince Harry and has not been involved in talks with the Duke of Sussex when he has visited the UK.
King Charles met with his youngest son as recently as September, with reports suggesting that Harry is looking for a route back into the royal fold.
It remains to be seen whether the King will provide Harry with one, knowing that it would be against Prince William’s wishes.
But it is clear that Prince Harry’s titles and honours will remain safe with Charles as the monarch.

This could change when the day comes that William sits on the throne.
Royal insiders have suggested that Prince William is not planning on inviting Prince Harry to his Coronation, which would be a major snub to the Duke of Sussex and is a further sign of their fractured relationship.
As the years go on, with Prince Harry living in the US and far away from undertaking official royal duties, Prince William may feel that taking action against his brother is not a valuable use of his time.
However, if Harry, who has eased off on attacking the royals over the last two years, ventures into those waters again or reveals further family secrets in the future, William could decide to pursue sanctions against his brother through the framework laid out in Andrew’s demise.
