Henry Nowak killer Vickrum Digwa to have ‘lenient’ jail sentence reviewed after knifing student to death

HENRY Nowak’s killer will have his “lenient” jail sentence reviewed after the case sparked fury across the UK.

Vickrum Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years for knifing Henry to death in a random street attack.

Henry was knifed five times with a 21cm ceremonial sword by Digwa in a sick attack in Southampton last December.

But as cops arrived at the scene, the killer accused his innocent victim of making racist remarks, prompting police to arrest Henry as he lay dying.

Digwa was jailed for the student’s murder last month, but the public and politicians have since called for the killer’s sentence to be reviewed.

And Solicitor General Ellie Reeves has now referred the case to the Court of Appeal under the unduly lenient scheme, saying it “horrified me”.

She said: “This case horrified me, and I know that feeling is shared by the British public.

“It is right that difficult questions need to be answered about the way the police handled Henry’s Nowak’s murder, while my role is to review Digwa’s sentence for his crimes.

“After careful consideration, I have taken the decision to refer this case to the Court of Appeal.

“No sentence can ever undo the devastation that Henry’s family have suffered, or fill the void left by his loss.

“But I hope this referral goes some way towards bringing them the justice they deserve.”

Hampshire Police is currently being investigated by the IOPC, the police watchdog, over Henry’s arrest.

Shocking bodycam footage showed police ignoring the tragic teen’s pleas for help and handcuffing him as his Sikh killer told lies.

Henry can be heard telling officers several times he had been stabbed – only for one to say “I don’t think you have, mate”.

The teenager was even heard in the clip saying “I can’t breathe” as well as “I’ve been stabbed”.

He tragically died just one hour after the video was taken.

Nigel Farage blasted cops who believed the Sikh killer’s “racist attack” lie.

The Reform UK leader praised Henry’s family for reacting in such a “dignified way”, but said Brits are living in a “two-tier culture”.

Downing Street later hit back at his comments, saying there is “no such thing as two-tier policing” and that officers must treat everyone equally.

Sir Keir Starmer said he “felt sick” watching the bodycam footage.

He added there were “serious questions” for police to answer, including how “accusations of racism” swayed the cops’ decisions.

Some 23 people have been charged following vicious clashes with riot cops at a protest in Southampton over Henry’s murder.

Hundreds of demonstrators had initially gathered peacefully outside a police station, waving Union Jacks and chanting “I can’t breathe”.

But as the protests continued into the night, a breakaway group began chucking glass bottles, bins, stones and cans at officers.
