Prince Harry’s friends delivered a harsh assessment of Meghan Markle when they first met, according to reports.

Shortly after Meghan was introduced to the world as Harry’s girlfriend, she was invited to join one of his shooting weekends at Sandringham.

Harry first met Meghan in the summer of 2016, with their journey from meeting to marriage unfolding in less than two years. According to author Tom Bower’s book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, Harry’s inner circle was taken aback by Meghan’s behavior in their first meeting.

Bower alleged Meghan confronted guests who made remarks that fell short of her “wokery” standards.

The friends’ harsh critique of Meghan extended beyond that first meeting – and Bower stated that text messages were quickly shared between the attendees as they departed.

The author alleged that one five-word text read, “Harry must be f—— nuts,” while another declared, “She’s a total nightmare.”

Harry and Meghan subsequently became engaged in November 2017, before exchanging vows in Windsor just six months later.

Just one year after their wedding ceremony, Meghan and Harry welcomed their first child, a son named Prince Archie, in May 2019.

After stepping back from their royal roles in early 2020, the couple moved to California – where they now live with Prince Archie and his younger sister, Princess Lilibet.

Since Bower’s revelations, Alex Rayner – who has been friends with Harry for more than a decade – recently stepped forward to defend Meghan. In a conversation with The Daily Mail regarding Meghan’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan, he suggested that Britons might be “too cynical.”

Elaborating on his point, he said, “I’d argue it’s made for the American market, maybe a little bit more than for us. We’re a little bit more cynical.

“For us, we’re about old Mrs Miggins over the Aga doing her marmalade. Whereas, in America, they’re a little bit more classy about it. They want a bit more.”
