Police confirm body found in NSW is of triple murderer Julian Ingram

NSW Police has confirmed the body of a man found beside a vehicle in the state’s west is that of triple murderer Julian Ingram.

His badly decomposed remains were found about 3:30pm on Monday, when officers were alerted by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to reports of an abandoned vehicle at Roundhill Nature Reserve, about 100 kilometres north-west of Lake Cargelligo.

A small sign at the start of the fire trial where the body was found warned that NPWS was conducting “1080 baiting” of feral animals in the area.

It was that aerial pest program that ultimately led to the ute and body being found.

The remains have now been formally identified as 37-year-old Julian Ingram, who sparked a massive manhunt after shooting and killing three people, including his heavily pregnant ex-partner, in Lake Cargelligo on January 22.

The small, close-knit community is still mourning the deaths of Sophie Quinn and her unborn child, her friend John Harris and her aunt Nerida Quinn.

Kaleb Macqueen, 19, who was at the home when Nerida Quinn was killed, survived after also being shot.

At the time of the shootings, Mr Ingram was out on bail over multiple domestic violence charges relating to Sophie Quinn for alleged conduct in late November 2025.

NSW Police western region commander, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland, yesterday told a media conference that the matter would be the subject of a critical-incident investigation “based around the actions of police involved”.

“I strongly support any sort of bail being stronger in relation to any offender being released,” he said.

“Obviously, we have made decisions around bail across the western region, and again … any form of bail that [is] granted needs to be really reviewed.”

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of his death, although police have said it appears that he took his own life some time “very shortly after” his murder spree.

Investigations by detectives attached to Strike Force Doberta will continue and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
