Married At First Sight Australia fans were stunned after one bride found herself reading her Final Vows in an empty room.

In tonight’s (May 11) instalment of the popular Channel 4 dating programme, the moment for final vows had arrived.

The couples still together were required to head back to their respective hometowns to contemplate their relationships before making their ultimate choice on whether to stay married or part ways.

However, it was David who left everyone shocked as he brutally left his wife, Alissa#, standing alone after admitting that he did see a future with her.

Alissa clearly hadn’t anticipated this turn of events, having earlier suggested she might be the one to walk away. Heading into Final Vows, she felt certain David would opt to remain in the marriage, though it appeared her own decision had been reached, and she was prepared to call time on their relationship, reports OK!.

Speaking to the camera, she said, “Today is going to be tough for David. He missed the mark because he was a ‘yes’ man. The ball is in my court today, and it breaks my heart knowing I’m going to be breaking his heart at the end of this.”

Yet she never got the opportunity to do so, as David got there first. His vows appeared to begin promisingly, as he started by highlighting his powerful bond with Alissa.

However, matters swiftly deteriorated when David informed Alissa during the final commitment ceremony that his feelings towards their relationship had shifted. Their row following the Grass is Greener challenge proved to be the breaking point.

He stated, “I finally spoke up. You accused me of blindsiding you, and in that moment, I realised something important. I wasn’t being heard. You couldn’t see I wasn’t attacking you – I was finally standing up for myself.”

He added, “You flirted, made inappropriate jokes, and spoke poorly about me behind my back. I felt betrayed and disrespected by what I saw.

“I challenged you, and you shut me down. It felt as though you wouldn’t take any accountability for how I had felt. Throughout all this, I’ve been patient, and I have done a lot of the listening, but I’m done listening.”

Acknowledging he still had feelings for Alissa, David then delivered his devastating conclusion, telling his bride he was choosing his own well-being over their relationship.

He said, “With you, there was no version of me that could win. I’ve realised I can’t be the man who constantly fights to be heard or constantly fights to prove his worth to someone who is still deciding if I’ll be enough.

“Today I’m not walking away because I’ve stopped loving you, Alissa. I’m walking away because loving you shouldn’t mean losing myself.”

In a striking moment, he departed before Alissa could read her vows. Alissa appeared visibly stunned as she asked: “You’re not going to listen to my vows?”

As David silently walked away, she questioned: “That’s a no?. Wow, I just wasted three months of my life, and he won’t even listen to me.”

Left standing alone, Alissa had no choice but to recite her vows to an empty space. Those tuning in from home were utterly stunned by the unexpected “plot twist” and quickly took to social media to share their reaction.

One viewer posted on X: “This has me lost for words #MarriedAtFirstSightAustralia #MafsAU.” Another remarked: “YES DAVID dropping her before she got the chance to drop you first and then walking away without even hearing her vows watching her smug grin slowly disappear was so satisfying #mafsau #mafsaustralia.”

A third observer noted: “She is reading to thin air loool #mafsau.” Another viewer exclaimed: “The plot twist!!! #MAFSAU #MAFSAustralia #MAFS #MAFSAUS #MarriedAtFirstSight #MarriedatfirstsightAustralia.”
