Jimmy Kimmel Vows to Keep Calling Out Trump’s ‘Loathsome’ Behavior — ‘Rob Reiner Would Want Us To’ | Video

Jimmy Kimmel is not backing down — and on Monday night, the late-night host made that abundantly clear.
During a blistering monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the comedian vowed to continue calling out what he described as Donald Trump’s “loathsome” behavior, saying he was doing so in the spirit of filmmaker and longtime Trump critic Rob Reiner — and in defense of basic decency.
Kimmel’s remarks came after Trump lashed out at Reiner over the weekend, dismissing the outspoken director’s criticism by claiming he suffered from an “incurable” case of so-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” The comment quickly drew outrage online, with critics accusing the former president of once again trivializing mental health while attacking a political opponent.
And Kimmel was having none of it.
‘This is who he is’

Opening his monologue, Kimmel addressed Trump’s response head-on, calling it a textbook example of cruelty masquerading as political rhetoric.
“When someone criticizes him, this is where he always goes,” Kimmel said. “Name-calling, mockery, dehumanizing language. This is who he is.”
The host argued that Trump’s fixation on “Trump Derangement Syndrome” has become a rhetorical crutch — one used to avoid accountability and shut down dissent.
“He doesn’t argue facts. He doesn’t debate ideas,” Kimmel added. “He insults. That’s the move.”
Invoking Rob Reiner
Kimmel went on to reference Rob Reiner, a frequent target of Trump’s online attacks and one of Hollywood’s most vocal critics of the former president.
“Rob Reiner has been warning people about Trump for years,” Kimmel said. “And you know what? He does it because he actually cares about this country.”
The host made it clear that continuing to speak out isn’t just a political choice — it’s a moral one.
“If you see something wrong and you stay quiet, you’re part of the problem,” Kimmel said. “Rob would want people to keep speaking up. He does want that.”
‘We’re not doing this for clicks’
Kimmel also pushed back against the idea that celebrities criticize Trump for attention, insisting the backlash is about behavior, not politics.
“This isn’t about left or right,” he said. “It’s about a grown man who wants to be president again and still talks like an internet troll.”
He accused Trump of normalizing cruelty and rewarding it, warning that the consequences extend far beyond entertainment or social media.
“When the guy at the top behaves like this, it gives everyone else permission to be worse,” Kimmel said.
Audience reaction and viral clip
The segment drew loud applause from the studio audience and quickly circulated online, with clips racking up views across social media platforms. Supporters praised Kimmel for “saying what needed to be said,” while critics accused him of politicizing late-night television — a familiar backlash the host appeared to anticipate.
“I know some people say, ‘Why don’t you just tell jokes?’” Kimmel said. “Well… this is a joke. Just not a funny one.”
No retreat in sight
Kimmel ended the segment by making one thing clear: Trump’s attacks won’t silence him.
“As long as he keeps acting like this,” Kimmel said, “we’re going to keep calling it out.”
For viewers expecting Kimmel to soften his tone in an election year, the message was unmistakable.
He won’t.
