Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher once made his daughter a very expensive promise. On a re-aired episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm, the actor and dad shared a heartfelt moment – but admitted it would cost him.

The show follows Kelvin and his wife Liz as they navigate life on a farm in the boundary of the Peak District National Park. His daughter, Marnie, was helping out on the farm as she admitted that she had created a special bond with one of the sheep. They sprayed the little lamb with a love heart as they welcomed him to a new field. The little girl shared her worries as she said: “My dad’s going to say ‘I’m taking Aga to the butchers and we’re going to eat him’, before I even get to say goodbye.”

She sat with her head in her hands as she watched the sheep find its way in the field.

“I know he’s big now, but I just really want to keep him,” Marnie sadly admitted. The sheep bleeted loudly as she added: “He agrees.”

Noticing how downtrodden his little girl was, Kelvin noted: “She’s gutted. She seems quite upset, doesn’t she?” He then shouted her before adding that they could check on him later on.

As she approached him, he asked: “It was a bit tough that, wasn’t it? A bit tricky?

“Now, I’ll do you a deal. Look at me. I promise, shake hands, that we will always have him.” He then added seven words to cheer her up: “He won’t end up on our plate.”

The worried dad added: “I’m making you a promise, you see. Like, the other lambs and the other sheep, sometimes they help to feed everybody…”

He was cut off by her saying: “They all end up on our plate,” as he promised: “Well, he won’t end up on our plate.”

In a voiceover, the actor turned farmer admitted: “That’s maybe not the most profitable decision I’ve made today, but family comes first. Aga is now one of the Fletchers.”
